Bringing Heart-to-Heart Practitioner Training to the South East
We are so excited to bring Heart-to-Heart to Clear Sky Children’s Charity in November! It is our shared passion to:
- empower practitioners with the very latest attachment science
- equip practitioners with everything they need to deliver playful and effective programmes to families
- work hand in hand to maximise the best possible outcomes for children and teens
Heart-to-Heart is an evidence-based child and adolescent attachment and play programme. It spans two age ranges; 5 to 9 and 10 to15. Heart-to-Heart practitioners are trained to lead a fun games and activity session with families, designed to strengthen the parent-child relationship. It is a direct, dyadic approach which can be delivered with an individual parent and child, with groups of parents and their children, or teens in a range of settings, including the home. Practitioners come from all kinds of settings; teachers, social workers, family outreach workers, therapists, psychologists, adoption support workers, foster carers, charity workers, and psychiatrists .
The History of Heart-to-Heart
One of the earliest Heart-to-Heart programmes took place in Cape Town, South Africa, with a group of very vulnerable parents and their primary aged children. All of the families struggled with complex challenges including alcohol misuse and long term unemployment. The children were already struggling and their behaviour was of great concern to school staff. Although Heart-to-Heart was unable to change the social and economic factors at play, we saw promising and measurable shifts in the quality of the parent-child relationship and the children’s behaviour.
Whilst playful and enjoyable, Heart-to-Heart provides families with the support they need to enjoy a different way of being with their children and teens. Being the parent or carer of 21st century children and teens is really challenging for all families. We want to help parents and carers feel empowered in this journey!
