This post is a sad one to have to write, but unfortunately in this day and age of internet scams and fraud we need to be extra vigilant about contact that we might receive from people who may be preying on the generosity of the public. People who wish to exploit the kindness of others may pose as charity workers, or employees to elicit donations. This can be done online, over the phone or in person. This is a problem that is faced by all charities so it’s important that everyone is aware of unauthorised fundraising.
This post is to outline some of the ways you can support Clear Sky online securely and in confidence.
If you wish to make a donation to Clear Sky, the safest way to do it is through our JustGiving page. When people do fundraising events for Clear Sky we also ask them to set up JustGiving pages (see an example of what this looks like here) which link to ours to show that they are genuine appeals. There are other trusted fundraising platforms such as BT My Donate, Virgin Money Giving, and Charity Choice which fundraisers may choose to use. If you’re in doubt about whether a fundraiser is genuine just drop us a line and we will be able to confirm for you! Any links on the Clear Sky website or Facebook page are genuine platforms that we have approved for people to donate through.
Be cautious if someone that you don’t know is asking you to give them money on behalf of Clear Sky, and if in doubt please get in touch with us to confirm whether fundraisers are genuine. For the most part, people who want to fund raise for us do so with our permission so we can work together to help that individual raise as much money as possible. Be wary if the person does not seem to have a genuine link or connection to Clear Sky, or if the request seems strange.
If you receive contact from someone via a Facebook profile and you do not think it is genuine, you can report them. We do not have any employees outside of the UK.
This post sounds all a bit doom and gloom, but we really want all of our lovely supporters to feel confident that when they donate to Clear Sky they can do so in utmost confidence through the safest channels. More than anything it’s just about being aware and not being afraid to question if something doesn’t seem right. If someone is genuine they won’t be offended by you asking questions.
Thanks for reading and getting fundraising savvy with us, together we can make sure that donations all go to the right place to help the causes who need it the most.
